What the Gamma was that?
Gamma Waves - A relatively fast frequency range of 25 to 100Hz, the midrange 40Hz - this article is about gamma brainwaves not harmful gamma rays. A more recent discovery of brainwaves, since digital EEG has been able to detect higher frequencies within our brains. These higher vibratory frequencies have been associated with peak performance, concentration and experienced mediators.
The structure of the Gamma brainwaves is 40 cycles per second, it sweeps across the back and front of the whole brain. Its a powerful brainwave for mental and physical performance. When there are lower Gamma waves present during mental and physical activity, is when learning problems, bad memory and slow mental processing occurs. This is very interesting as to when I was younger I was in very low sets at school, my mind was quite slow, it took me many years to reach a higher state of consciousness. I believe this happened when I started martial arts, living in nature down the woods and experiencing life. I was very physically fit and got heavily into paganism and meditation and I feel this is what opened me up to higher peak performance.
Thus, gamma binaural beats, brainwaves frequencies that help put us into these states helps us for super-learning, peak performance and memory retention. Using gamma waves can have a positive effect on our memory, recall and attention. It is found in research that athletes, musicians and scientists have more gamma waves than the average person.
I highly believe, just like strong mediators, that when you remain in a certain state of consciousness, you go to our average brainwave state, that if we are usually peak and alert we are usually in that space.
When gamma frequencies are being used, our vision is stronger, our brain is more wired and connected, so all our senses such as taste, smells, and our vision is sharper. We have increased processing speed, our brain is able to process information faster, react and retrieve memories. With higher gamma activity people are usually happier, at peace, calm and content.
Saying this during REM (Rapid eye movement) during sleep and dreaming, Gamma waves are usually present, this is when visualisation is present, and peak concentration.
We don’t just need binaural beats to help us get into this frequency, as feelings of love and compassion can help generate these brainwaves. Gamma waves are most powerful when applied to love and life purpose, doing what you love, being active and learning. It’s like the old saying "if you don’t use it, you lose it" you have to keep your mind and brain active. And doing the things you love, is a really good healthy way for your brain.
Studies done with Tibetan Buddhist monks and Celestine nuns were able to demonstrate their brainpower during meditation. EEG and brain scans were able to successfully show the most activity in the left prefrontal cortex, which is the part of the brain when associated with self-control, happiness and compassion. Also, it showed a reduction of the area of the brain responsible for the fight or flight centre (the amygdala) most likely connected to fear. The other human emotion is LOVE. So it shows that meditation scientifically can allow you to be much happier and a more compassionate person. Studies were shown this because when experienced meditators were asked to perform feeling of love and compassion, there were strong Gamma brainwaves present.
Its important that Gamma waves are present during meditations because they help us to gather information, filter it out, gain ideas, meditation helps us to gain insight into our lives, by taking a break from the physical world, and coming back with all fresh 3 eyes. Our world is made for us to gain information, to relax, to help us on our spiritual journey, and binaural beats, mind machines, and light machines are a great way to access the information for ourselves, they serve as a powerful tool to access deep states and to find your purpose and live it.
