Hypnagogia

Over the many years of holding group and single events, I often hear "wow look at these colours"

"those shapes were amazing, it was like I was in a kaleidoscope of patterns and colour, I saw this object, i saw that object etc etc. I believe that a lot of these patterns and objects are not just from the subconscious but also from psychic visions and forms of clairvoyance and dream-time visions at present during meditative journeys.

The images one sees using a geometric array of LED lights via an electrical device can create an exciting reaction of the retina by means of the closed eyelids. Flicker responses can create stroboscopic light pulses which excite visual fields in front of the sitter’s field of vision.

It’s almost like our natural instinct to 'react' to these lights in our visual field with our eyes closed, and force us to interpret that information into our own internal language.  We as the sitter of the light machine, do not know the sequence of the light patterns and how they perform, so our brain takes all that information and turns it into a story, of geometric patterns, of colours, of light, and translates that into our subconscious.

Light pulse frequencies of these ranges are typically in Theta to Gamma frequencies being from 4hz - 40hz.

How these different images take place is usually very similar, either psychedelic forms, unidentified objects, colourful geometric environments, explosive terrains, or peaceful merging terraforms, these all take place from an array of different flicker rates, light intensities, decay, strobe intensities and frequencies from the LEDs.

Typical reported patterns of entopic hallucinations are usually forms such as webs, grids, checkerboard, clover-lead, spirals, funnel or floating blobs, stars and distant galaxies of sunspots and black holes.

How these take place at a microscopic level and what is going on visually, is that these forms are closely related to the spatial relationship between the ring-like structures of the cell walls of the retina and the matrix grid-like background structures of the visual cortex. Have you ever had your eyes tested? When the optician shines a light in your eye, you can see the back of your eye, there are many shapes. Imagining now flashes of light mirroring backwards from this structure and reflecting back from the visual cortex. You can imagine an array of different objects and patterns from the different light sources coming into the eye.
When the eye is closed during a light machine session, it is like the mind is a canvas waiting to be painted by the light show.

Low frequencies have been shown that around 1-4 hz are usually more amorphous
medium frequencies around 4-9hz usually show more web, spiral, tunnel, and cloverleaf patterns.
and higher frequencies 9-16hz are usually characterised by checkerboard, web, and grid matrix.

Saying this from my own research into making light sessions and programming light machines for a beautiful light show, the production of geometric hallucinations range of frequencies for visual stimulation is usually from 9hz - 30hz. This is interesting as some research of chemical hallucinogenics have stated that between 5-40hz is where the magic frequencies are for geometric and visionary experiences, which is the general range of waking human consciousness.

How hallucinating fields take place is usually of evolving flickering fractals over fields of grids, interlocking and changing over complex patterns which we only see within the microscopic forms of all matter on earth, be that liquid, solid or gas. Going deep within yourself is the magic to going within, finding the answers and experiencing oneness with all things big and small. The hallucinations forms by mind-machines and grow and climax and then soften and be still, taking you into the matter and then just like everyday experiences, giving you a break to reflect on what you just experienced.

In light machines, the flicker phosphenes are the result of neurochemical saturation and an array of substantial decay. Evidence suggests that electrically stimulated phosphenes can take around 10-15 seconds to fully decay and fade out until the periodic stimulus on the visual cortex is fully removed. Its like sunspots on your eye, how long does the visual stay in your field of vision until it has subsided and faded.

Psychedelic images via chemical or electrical affect consciousness, because the way we communicate is by images, the way we see and interact with the world. Being that each psychedelic pulse can have a saturation decay of around 15 seconds, they can drift and fade out horizontally, vertically, laterally or radially, across a vast field creating overlapping webs of many geometric shapes and forms. This creates a unique field of visual patterns, 3D meshwork, and wireframes of visual enjoyment.  Quickly morphing within bright dots, glistening jewels and tunnels of light and darkness surrounded in an array of colourful blasts of emotional experiences. Hot spots within the brain can excite neural activity bringing back memories of the past, traumas to be released, feeling of happiness, excitement, and even memories or feeling of past psychedelic experiences or echoes of bliss.

During light sessions, it is normal for your eyes to flicker in response to light impulses. they are perfectly safe as long as your eyes are closed. In cases of chemical psychedelics, it has been said that the release of flicker responses between the optic tract and visual cortex during psychedelic experimentation have reported a fast pulsation or jitter in the outside corner of the eyes. from the optic muscles, showing that what is going on within the brain is a visual experience. We see this happening also in mind machine sessions using light to achieve the same psychedelic result. That the sitter is not also moving their eyes, but they are experiencing a visual display within their mind.

Meditation and hypnotic exercises are used to produce states of hypoglycemia linked with theta brain waves and hallucinations. Chemical-based psychedelics usually create theta waves naturally within the brain, thus some 'drugs' naturally hypnotic while others are sensory deprivation, under the Theta driver using sound or to change the environment into that state.

The hallucinogenic tea ayahuasca is a mixture of a high-frequency interrupt psychedelic (DMT) and a low-frequency hypnotic diver (the beta-carbolines harmine and harmaline). This synergistic blend of high-beta interrupt and slow-theta attenuators means that ayahuasca should promote both fast beta geometric flicker phosphenes as well as slow eidetic theta dream snippets. This prediction can resolve paradoxical EEG analysis of subjects under the influence of ayahuasca, which sometimes indicates increased power in high-frequency beta and gamma coherence,13,14 but in the context of shamanic ritual shows increased power in slow-wave theta activity.15

Using darkrooms for long periods of time can slow the brainwaves because we are usually in darkness for sleep, but because of the borderline consciousness state of waking and relaxed, darkrooms can also create hypnotic phenomena and bring on clairvoyant visual activity.

This is important to use the light machines in darkroom because when the light session has ended, you can sometimes have experiences beyond the session in the darkness
